It's everything that goes in your Go Bag... and more!!
Your kit stays in your dorm or apartment, so you can make these as extensive as you want! You'll want your Kit to last you at least 5-7 days. You probably won't want to do homework during a disaster, so be sure to add things you enjoy like your favorite chocolates, books, or board games.
Stay hydrated! Pack enough water so each person has one gallon per day.
Store foods that are easy to make and won't spoil. Canned soup, dry pasta, and powdered milk work great! Don't forget a manual can opener to open your food and utensils to eat with.
Pack a 3-day supply of all medicines, at minimum. This includes over-the-counter medication as well as prescription medications.
Always nice to stay fresh and look your best. Include some personal items such as soap, toothbrush & toothpaste, baby wipes, contact lenses or glasses.
Having proper safety supplies available can be crucial in helping with illness and injury. Be sure to pack a first aid kit, emergency blanket, multipurpose tool, and a whistle.
Stay connected! Keep a radio (battery, solar, or hand-crank powered) for updates on the situation. Flashlights, batteries, and portable chargers can be essential in times of power loss. Be sure to have extra sources of power to keep your cell phone and other electronic equipment working.
Keep copies of important documents such as insurance cards, passports, and immunization records in your kit. Include some extra cash and a map of the campus/area you are living in for reference.
Don't forget about children and furry friends. Pack additional supplies to make sure the whole family is ready.
