Build a Kit

Be prepared to respond quickly during an emergency. Before an incident occurs, pack a bag of essential items to last you for at least three days. Emergency situations can arise when we least expect it, and having food, water and other necessities to shelter-in-place or take with you in a hurry will enhance your readiness. 

Build A Kit

An emergency kit could include the following recommended items.

  • Water (one gallon per person per day for at least three days)
  • Nonperishable food
  • Can opener
  • Battery-powered or hand-crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
  • Flashlight
  • First-aid kit
  • Extra batteries
  • Blanket
  • Warm clothes
  • Whistle 
  • Dust mask (to help filter contaminated air)
  • Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties (for personal sanitation)
  • Wrench or pliers (to turn off utilities)
  • Local maps
  • Portable power bank charger for cell phone
  • Important documents
  • CDC recommendations to prevent the spread of viral infections
